This blog is reserved for all who had been involved - be it Sponsors, Organisers, Race Officials, Drivers, Bikers with the Singapore Motorsport scene in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Anyone who thus qualified, are entitled to write in this blog, to update us on the actual happenings in those times.


As far as I can remember,
The Sponsors: Malaysia Singapore Airlines, Rothmans, Shell, Castrol, Mobil Oil Malaysia, Singapore Pools, Fraser & Neave, Goodwood Hotels, Champion spark plugs, NGK, spark plugs, etc., to name a few. Occasionally big names from Australia such as Grace Brothers would sponsor the Australian competitors (1972 for eg). Usually the airlines such as Air New Zealand sponsored the Kiwi riders (Geoff Perry) and drivers (Roly Levis and Graeme Lawrence). Longines, Omega and Seiko were highly visible, sponsoring teams or timing equipment. Tyre companies such as Dunlop and Bridgestone were also very visible. Dunlop were title sponsors for the long running Gap Hill Climb series (until the last one in 1973). Please assist me to list other sponsors that may have also participated in the Grand Prix series.

The Organisers: Ministry of Social Affairs, SMC / FDC and SMSC, Ministry of Culture (1961-1965 Singapore Grand Prix series).

The Race Officials: SMC Committee (formed on 25th February 1948), Paul Gibbs Pancheri, Freddie Pope, Charles & Joan Green, Francis Baruch, Harold Netto, FDC for AutoTests, Grass Track Racing, SMSC Committee(1968 on), Dr Winston Lee, Jack Kenneison- Auto Tests and others yet to be mentioned.

The Competitors:
NB: Competitors often raced in both the Grand Prix as well as the supporting races. As the main race was often run to Formula Libre specs (until 1971), the single-seaters were mixed with the saloons and sports cars.
